We are proud to be co-hosting the London week of the JIPA (Japanese Intellectual Property Association) bi-annual seminar which is be taking place at the Grange Holborn Hotel, from 1 to Wednesday 3 October.
The week will include trips to the UKIPO (United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office), Supreme Court and The London Eye, as well as lectures from several of our partners and fee earners covering the legal and practical aspects of working with the EPC (European Patent Convention) and EPO (European Patent Office).
The Boards of Appeal of the EPO are revising their Rules of Procedure. These changes are intended to increase the efficiency and predictability of appeal proceedings. As part of their revision process, the Boards of Appeal are holding a user consultation conference at the EPO on 5 December 2018. Jonathan Wills will be attending in order to question the Boards on their proposed changes, particularly where these changes appear to restrict the scope of an appeal, or the appellant’s ability to amend their case. Robert Watson will be representing FICPI at the DesignEuropa awards in Warsaw on 27 November 2018. Robert Watson will be part of a FICPI delegation visiting the European Patent Office on 12 March 2019 to meet with the EPO President, Antonio Campinos, and his senior management team, as well as with the President and Members of the EPO Boards of Appeal. Robert will be attending in his role as Vice-President of FICPI’s work and study commission. Key topics for discussion with the EPO will include the EPO’s Strategic Plan, erroneously filed elements and parts in PCT, the use of artificial intelligence in EPO operations, proposals for deferred examination, and the recently revised opposition procedure.
